RCHS names honor grads for Class of 2005

Rogers City High School announced 30 seniors will be honor graduates this year. Commencement is scheduled June 5. Valedictorian of the Class of 2005 is Rebecca Bruning, the daughter of Michael Bruning and Suellen Mertz with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. She has been in the National Honor Society for two years and is currently president of the local chapter as well as senior class president. She is the editor of the yearbook and has played basketball all four years in high school, serving as captain of the team in her junior and senior years. Bruning also played volleyball all four years and was tri-captain in her junior and senior years. She played softball as a freshman and sophomore and ran track in her junior and senior years. After graduation she plans to attend Alma College where she will study psychology. She plans to play volleyball in college as well. After establishing her career Bruning plans to enter politics.

Salutatorian is Lacey Smolinski (3.9471 G.P.A.), the daughter of Joe and Laure Smolinski of Hawks. She is a NHS member and has been active in the marching band, concert band, and ski club. She also worked at the Richard dairy farm and has been dually enrolled at Alpena Community College. She plans to attend ACC to complete the small business management program and enter the dairy industry.

Elizabeth Zinke (3.8902 G.P.A.), is the daughter of Barry and Mary Zinke. She has participated in TBL mentoring from freshman through first semester of her senior years and has been active in Girl Scouts, Key Club, NHS, and track. Zinke will be attending Ferris State University, majoring in history. Stacey Hopp (3.8660 G.P.A.), is the daughter of Jeff and Laurie Hopp. She participated in basketball, track and volleyball. She has been dually enrolled ACC and is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She plans on attending Lake Superior State University in the fall.

Kristy Curtis (3.8058 G.P.A.), daughter of Sharon Grulke, is vice president of the senior class, president of the student council, secretary of the Key Club and a member of NHS and Natural Helpers. She plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study physical therapy.

Issac Momrik (3.6686 G.P.A.), the son of Paul and Jane Momrik, has been active in NHS, yearbook staff, and Voices in Harmony. He served as editor of the school paper and as photo editor, and is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students. He played basketball four years and participated one year each in track and football. He plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University majoring in computer engineering.

Felicia Darga (3.5588 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Daniel and Audrey Darga. She was a tutor after school and a Girl Scout. She worked part-time at McDonald’s and Darga Forest Products. She plans to attend ACC and will major in elementary education to become a special education elementary teacher.

Megan Bade (3.4694 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Dennis and Cheryl Bade. She is a NHS member and worked part-time at the Subway sandwich shop. She plans to attend ACC to pursue a career in architecture.

Carrie Haselhuhn (3.4604 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Keith and Mary Haselhuhn and has been active in the NHS and Girl Scouts. She played varsity volleyball and track for three years and was in marching band for four years. She volunteered as a kindergarten class helper and a Young Fives helper. She will attend Lake Superior State University in the fall.

Jessica Konieczny (3.3679 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Keith and Betty Konieczny. She played basketball and softball all four years in high school. She will attend Lake Superior State University to prepare for a career in elementary education.

Desiree Farmer (3.3481 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Donna Emmons and David Farmer. She is a member of NHS, Voices in Harmony, Key Club, and Drama Club. Farmer has been a class officer and a member of the student council. She works part-time at Kortman’s Restaurant. She plans to attend ACC and then transfer to a university.

Kristyn Blackmer (3.3453 G.P.A.) is the granddaughter of Leon and Florence Blackmer. Blackmer is Miss Rogers City and is active in NHS, Key Club, track, and cheerleading, and has been a class officer. She will be attending LSSU in the fall, majoring in criminal justice.

Diana Lynn Stempky (3.3412 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Mike and Paulette Stempky. She is a member of the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council, NHS and the National Honor Roll. She also played softball. Stempky will be attending ACC in the nursing program.

Jessica Thompson (3.2788 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Steve and Kathy Thompson and is an NHS and Ski Club member. She will be attending LSSU to study nursing and psychology.

Chris Paschke (3.2038 G.P.A) is the sonof Robert and Claudia Paschke. He was active in basketball, baseball, journalism and a member of the NHS. He will be attending Alpena Community College to study teaching.

Kristina Vogelheim (3.1962 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Pam and Claude Vogelheim. She plans to attend Western Michigan University to study business management.

BJ Schmucker (3.1827 G.P.A.) is the son of Bill and Theresa Schmucker and is currently employed at the Engine Shop where. He plans to enter full-time work force after graduation.

Scott Robert Kromer (3.1453 G.P.A.) is the son of Robert and Connie Kromer. He enjoys bicycling and all aspects of woodworking. He has made several pieces of fine furniture as well as other items designed and built for school, church, and community events. He has been accepted into the construction management program at Michigan Technological University in the fall.

Bianca Pena (3.1333 G.P.A.). Her guardians are Kimberly and Andrew Sobeck. She plans to attend LSSU to study political science and pre-law.

Megan Darga (3.1283 G.P.A) is the daughter of Bob and Lori Darga. Megan has been an NHS member for two years and has been on the bowling team for three years. She is an altar server at St. Ignatius Catholic Church and is currently employed at the Lighthouse Restaurant. She participated in the Close-up Washington program. She will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall majoring in biomedical sciences, studying to be an X-ray and nuclear medicine technician.

Jude Ryan (3.1000 G.P.A.) is the daughter of Dr. James and Anne Ryan. She is a member of NHS. She plans to attend ACC for one year and transfer to a university to study ophthalmology.

Sara Dove (3.0943 G.P.A) is the daughter of Katherine Dove. She enjoyed basketball and softball in school and plans to attend CMU to study sports medicine and physical therapy.

Megan Hanson 3.0660 G.P.A.), the daughter of Richard and Lori Hanson, was the vice president of NHS and active in basketball, volleyball and softball. She was a coach in PIBA and also coached seventh grade volleyball. She will be attending ACC and will play for the volleyball team.

Josh Wirgau (3.06230 G.P.A.) is the son of Terry and Jane Wirgau. He is a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church and Youth Group. He will be attending ACC in the fall and ultimately plans to obtain a Ph.D. in psychology.

G.P.A.) is the daughter of Garry and Nancy Hurst. She was active in basketball, track and competitive dance. She is an NHS member and plans to attend CMU to study interior design and architectural design.

Jessica Hardenburg (3.034 G.P.A.). Her aunt Julia and uncle Armand Loiselle are her guardians. She was the president of the Ski Club and was active in the marching, concert and jazz bands. She has taught Sunday school at St. John Lutheran Church for four years. She is a member of the NHS and has been a Girl Scout for 13 years. She will attend ACC and then plans to transfer to GVSU to become a lab technologist.

Eric Ciarkowski (3.0296 G.P.A.), son of Joanne and Kevin Ritchie. He participated in track in high school. He plans to attend LSSU to study law and launch a political career.
