Viking softball teams take two in Joburg

Posen softball team had their hitting shoes on as they started the season with two wins at Joburg Monday. Viking hitters collected 16 hits in a 17-2 win in the first game. Beth Julian went all five innings, allowing just one hit and one earned run while walking two and striking out 10. Third baseman Jenny Ciarkowski had a big game at the plate, getting three hits, scoring three runs, and knocking in two.

Julian, batting in the number four spot, had three hits, including a double. Leadoff hitter Katie Lewandowski scored four times, reaching base on three hits and an error. Posen set the tone early, as the first six batters scored a run.

Game two went as well for Julian, as she got the win in this contest as well, a 20-0 mercy-rule no-hitter in three innings. She faced the minimum of nine batters, striking out six in a dominating performance. Her teammates supported her in a big way, scoring three in the first inning, six in the second and 11 in the third.

Posen had just eight hits but was aided by 13 bases on balls. Roxann Hincka and Lewandowski each had two hits, as coach Glenn Budnick was able to play many in this contest.
