Millersburg planning new city clock

A new city clock is being planned for Millersburg.

Organizers hope it can be ready for dedication during the annual Homecoming Celebration the weekend of September 2-5.

The cost of the project is $40,000. The organizers have raised $21,500 from private donations so far, according to Dan Millbocker. “One fellow stopped by and gave us a $100 donation the other day. He has not lived in Millersburg for 40 years, but he was just glad to see the town was doing something like this,” Millbocker said.

A recent fundraiser was a turkey dinner at the VFW hall that boosted the amount in the kitty for the project. Other fundraising events are in the planning stages, according to Marge Gertz.

Gertz said that people were curious about the status of the project and looking forward to seeing it standing in the center of town.

THE 16-FOOT clock will have four dials, facing in each direction. The clock faces are three feet in diameter.

The clock will have a sign on top of it that reads, “Millersburg 1901.” The clock style is of a vintage variety reminiscent of the period. A separate digital display giving the date and temperature in front of the clock will complete the setting for the clock tower.

A bronze plaque will be placed near the clock on a large granite rock. The plaque will acknowledge the community’s ef

forts in raising the money for the project, and will include the names of contributors who give $200 or more to the project.

A NOVEL donation scheme has been created for the project, with special clock designations for each type of donation.

The donations are tax deductible, and are designated as: one second ($10); one minute ($25); one hour ($100); 12-hour ($200); 24-hour ($500); and big-time ($1,000 or more). Gertz said any size donation is welcome. The response from the community has been very positive, and the organizers are looking forward to raising the remaining funds in the near future.
