FRIDAY FOOTBALL UPDATE: Inland Lakes 20, RC 13

Rogers City lost for the third time in a row as visiting Inland Lakes defeated the Hurons, 20-13. The Hurons got on board first on a 13-yard pass from Austin Fairbanks to Trent Holmes. Cody Wenzel added the conversion for a 7-0 Huron lead after the first possession.

An apparent TD by Wenzel on a punt return came back because of a Huron penalty and the Bulldogs stopped the next Huron drive. They blocked the punt, setting up good field position at the Huron 26. Three plays later they scored to make it 7-6, which is how the first quarter ended.

Wenzel’s 31-yard field goal attempt fell short as the second quarter began. Inland Lakes took the ensuing drive 81 yards in 15 plays, added the two-pointer and led 14-7. A key play of the drive was a four-and-nine conversion one play before the score.

The Bulldogs went up 20-7 midway through the third quarter, while holding the Hurons scoreless in the frame.

Fairbanks capped an eight play drive with a one-yard sneek, cutting the lead to 20-13, after the conversion failed.

Rogers City (2-3) faces Rudyard in the homecoming game next Friday.
