Chamber impressed with participation in scarecrow contest

Several area businesses and managers took part in the Onaway Area Chamber of Commerce scarecrow contest. ?The chamber of commerce sponsored a contest among businesses to try and get some community togetherness, and it was a great success,? said chamber treasurer Candy Faith, who organized the event.

At the time of publication last week, 16 scarecrows had been registered, but that went up to 26.

The grand prize winner was Manzana?s Deli, who received a gift basket that area merchants had contributed.

She was excited with how many took part and said, ?the town looked awesome! We can hardly wait until next year to see how many more join in the fun.?

?We were disappointed with the vandalism, and wish the kids could do something constructive and not destructive, maybe even join in the competition.?

Faith said the vandalism won?t stop the chamber from having the event next year.

Along with the scarecrow contest, the chamber is hosting Family Halloween Night at Chandler Park tomorrow (October 29) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be hot dogs, cider, music, a costume parade, and a pumpkin lighting.

For more information call 733-2706 or 733-2874. ?We hope to have a lot of families participate,? Faith said.
