Sportsman?s Show is coming, along with fireworks at Moran?s

Chandler Park in Onaway will be aglow with the Christmas spirit and yuletide cheer next Thursday at 6 p.m. for the annual lighting of the trees. Children of all ages will delight in a special visit from Father Christmas during the program.

The 60 trees in the display are provided by the Onaway Chamber of Commerce, which has been reorganized this year, according to Candy Faith. She said the program has been running successfully every year for the past six years.

Individuals and businesses may purchase a tree for $30 and place a memorial plaque or holiday greeting on it along with any ornaments of their choice. The Chamber of Commerce also provides the Christmas tree lights and power for the festive display.

She also noted that the program includes hot chocolate and sweets for everyone. Some of the children attending in the past have been known to break out in spontaneous Christmas Carols and other happy tunes for the season.

?The whole town turns out for the program and the little ones get really excited about seeing Santa. They are sure who has been naughty and who has been nice and they have their lists for Santa to take with him on Christmas Eve,? she added.

A timer mechanism will switch on the power for the decorations and trees will be illuminated every evening at 6 p.m. throughout the holidays.
