Posen sports booster donation will be used to purchase three sets of uniforms

A check totaling $5,000 was presented to members of the Posen Consolidated Schools Board of Education, which will be used to purchase new uniforms for the baseball team, as well as the boys and girls tracks squads. Since establishing last summer, the Posen Sports Boosters have contributed $12,500 toward the Posen athletic fund. Interim superintendent John Palmer confirmed that Monday?s decision to purchase the 12 boys track uniforms, 15 girls track uniforms, and 10 baseball uniforms was a direct result of the donation by the boosters. The baseball team has had the same uniforms for the last decade, according to athletic director Cliff Kelly.

The purchase price for all three sets is $5,382. Delivery will take five to seven weeks, after all the selections have been made. The purchase of uniforms will be done on a rotating basis, the AD said. ?I?ve already sent a letter to thank them,? Kelly said.

KELLY RECEIVED a financial report from the boosters prior to Monday?s meeting that indicates money has been raised during November, December and January from bake and water sales, a daily three contest, a donation from the Calcite Credit Union, along with a $400 private donation. The Booster?s next project will be a Texas Hold-em poker tournament, and based on comments from the meeting, board members would prefer that the eight-hour event planned for Saturday March 11, be conducted somewhere other than school property. The boosters were looking at either the school or the Posen Community Center.

?This activity will be open to adults only,? said Kelly. ?The boosters are checking into the possibility of holding this activity at the community center and they wanted to know if the board would be opposed to having it in the school. ?I have a little problem with it. The thing that would be good if it was in the community center is the boosters

want the round tables, so they would have to haul them all over here. I know for the prom they?ve always given us a reduced rate for the rental.?

. THE COST RANGE to rent the community center could be between $100 and $150. Kelly also told the board that no alcohol would be served. President Ken Wozniak said another plus to having the poker tournament at the community center is participants would be able to smoke, which could increase the number of players. ?You wouldn?t be able to smoke here,? said Wozniak. ?It wouldn?t be bad to have it here, but I think it would be more comfortable for everybody over there.?

Kelly said, ?I just think it would be better in the community center. I guess they really are good money makers. I will tell them we prefer the community center.?
