Antique snowmobile show planned for Rogers City

Tina Derry, the chairperson of the Rogers City Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Committee, met with the members of the Rogers City council Monday evening to ask for consent for the second annual show and swap meet. The request was met with immediate approval from the council. ?If this year is bigger and better than last year, you have done a great deal for the Rogers City economy in two years, ? said Mayor Beach Hall.

In fact, according to Derry, this year?s show, which is scheduled for March 10 and 11 is going to pull in quite a crowd. ?Last year we had about 170 snowmobiles on display,? said Derry. ?This year we are expecting double.? Councilman Pat Lamb commented that the RCA & V Snowmobile Committee was doing a fine job of advertising for the event. ?I was at the I-500 this past weekend and there were 9,000 people there,? said Lamb. ?Your crew had flyers everywhere ? good job.?

The Snowmobile Show and Swap will take place at The Water?s Edge Restaurant and The Driftwood Motel parking lots. There will be two miles of groomed trail for displayers to show off their snowmobiles. This year, the show will also hi

ghlight a swap area where snowmobile enthusiasts can purchase parts and sleds.

?We are going to have a lot of fun activities to participate in this year,? said Derry. ?There will be a keg toss, a ?blind ride? and an award banquet and dinner at the Water?s Edge.? Derry said that there are limited dinner tickets available to the public. Friday will showcase an antique and vintage ride; however because there is not an existing snowmobile trail, the machines will be hauled out to the riding area. Saturday will highlight the swap area and also a Kitty Kat Ride, where kids can join in the snowmobile fun as well.

The RCA & V Snowmobile Show pulls in many visitors to the area. According to Derry, people come from all over Michigan, Ohio, Canada and Wisconsin for the event. For more information, Derry can be reached at (989) 734-7039.
