Haskill retires from road commission

Lee “Radar” Haskill, a lifelong resident of Millersburg, retired from the Presque Isle County Road Commission earlier this week after dedicating more than 31 years to the job. Superintendent of the road commission, Eric Rose, said that Haskill?s presence is already greatly missed.

?Lee and I have known each other since we were kids ? he has been a friend all my life,? said Rose. ?He?ll be missed at the road commission?he always did what needed to be done.?

In his many years at the road commission, Haskill wore many different hats. For more than 20 years, he was a pump operator for the brine well. He also worked for numerous years as the assistant foreman at the Onaway garage, as well as driving the tanker trucks for dust control.

Haskill said he enjoyed his many years of service, which started back in the summer of 1974. ?I have worked with a lot of good guys, and (the road commission) has been an excellent place to work,? said Haskill. ?I?d like to thank them for all the years they gave me.?

Haskill gives some of the credit for his positive experience with the road commission to the many people who lived along his route. ?We really work for the peopl

e,? said Haskill. ?I thank everyone out there who has been so nice to me over the years ? they really made life good.?

With his retirement, Haskill now plans to get some work done on his farm in Millersburg, where he lives with his wife, Ann. He says that he will periodically work for the road commission as a retiree, but really plans on getting some remodeling done on his house.

His wife recently retired as well, and the couple now looks forward to enjoying some time together. Although you may not see Haskill driving the big trucks around as much, you may still see him out and enjoying life.

?When Ann retired I bought her a Honda scooter,? said Haskill. ?Now that I am retiring, I am getting one too.?
