Patriotic art awards given

The Young American Patriotic Art Contest was again conducted by VFW Auxiliary 5857 in the Art Department of Onaway high school.

The brochures, with the rules and suggestions, were taken to the school on the first of October. The deadline for having the art work completed was March 29, 2006. The art works were picked up and the auxiliary found 42 students had entered the contest. How great!

The next step was the judging. Judges were contacted and Robert Gertz, Carol Latsch and Charles Rodriguez agreed to the job. The job was very difficult; to pick a winner took much thought and discussion.

The three top places were finally agreed upon. First place went to Samantha McAtee, second place to Josh Leonard, and third place to Heather Stalker. Each will also receive a certificate. The checks and certificates were awarded on Wednesday, April 12, at the school.

The VFW Auxiliary Ladies would like to thank all the students who participated and let them know we were able to see all their entries before our meeting on Thursday evening. What a good Job!
