More commissioner candidates file

Two individuals have filed as candidates in District 3 for the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners. Republican Milt Very has put his name in the running, along with former county commissioner Gary Nowak. Nowak is currently serving as a member of the Rogers City Council. District 3 is comprised mostly of residents from the city of Rogers City. Democrat Mike Darga is fulfilling the last seven months of a two-year term and had yet to file an affidavit of identity as of Tuesday this week.

Candidates have filed in districts 4

and 1. Incumbent vice chairman Gary Wozniak has filed in District 4, while former commissioner Wayne Vermilya announced his candidacy in District 1. The deadline to file for partisan and non-partisan candidates is Tuesday at 4 p.m. The primary election is August 8, while the general election is November 7. Candidates without party affiliation have until July 20 get their information into the county clerk?s office. Tuesday is also the deadline for precinct delegates. Republican Erica Viegelahn has been the only candidate to file in Belknap Township. Very has filed as a precinct delegate in Rogers City precinct one.

According to county clerk Sue Rhode, the next election deadline will be May 30 for ballot wording of local proposals. May 2 was the last day in which a new candidate for probate judge could file. Prosecutor Don McLennan is the only newcomer that will have his name on the ballot and will face incumbent probate judge Ken Radzibon in November.
