Special education money secure for another five years

The special education millage renewal was approved Tuesday by voters in the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District by a two to one margin, 5,096 to 2,218. All three Presque Isle County school districts approved the measure. The millage will be in place for the next five years.

In Onaway, the proposal was approved, 316 to 124, while voters in Rogers City gave it the nod, 177 to 38. The millage also received approval in Posen. The overall vote count was 45-12.

There were no contested races for school board positions in the county.

Incumbent Sharon J. Lyon was the top vote getter in Onaway with 346 votes, while Christopher A Church had 211.
