Six contestants to vie for Miss Onaway crown

The city of Onaway is gearing up for the upcoming Fourth of July celebration, and to kickoff the festivities, six young women will vie for the honor of being crowned Miss Onaway at the annual pageant, which is slated for Friday, June 23, at the Onaway High School, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Heather Marie Stalker, 16, is the daughter of James and Marie Stalker. She enjoys cheerleading, dancing, swimming, reading, and drawing. She plans to attend college in order to pursue a career as an administrative assistant. She would like to eventually get married and have a family. Heather will be singing ?Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go?? by the Pussycat Dolls for the talent competition.

Wendy Marie Norman, 17, is the daughter of Richard and Veronica Norman. She enjoys cheerleading, dancing, spending time with her friends, and anything related to cosmetology. Wendy plans to attend Grand Valley State University or Michigan State University to pursue a career in either law or child psychology. She will be performing a dance to ?Land of 1,000 Dances? by Wilson Pickett.

Nicole Anna Marie Hillis, 17, is the daughter of Jerry and Sally Hillis. Nicole?s interests include camping, horseback riding, boating, swimming, riding with her dad on his Harley, and watching movies with friends. She plans to pursue a college degree in massage therapy and medical technology. Nicole will be singing a patriotic medley of songs for the talent competition.

Anne Kent, 16, is the daughter of Bruce and Wendy Szymoniak. Anne enjoys cheerleading, softball, writing, yoga, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She plans to attend a university to pursue a career in journalism. For her talent, Anne will perform an original comedy skit entitled, ?Chelsea on the Phone.?

Britini Michelle Wregglesworth, 17, is the daughter of Gary and Ellen Wregglesworth. Britini?s interests include music, playing the

clarinet, singing, driving, and swimming. She plans to attend North Central Michigan College, and then transfer to a university to pursue a career in art and education. Britini will perform a clarinet solo to the song ?Adagio and Menueto? by Mozart.

Tierra Lynn DeYoung, 17, is the daughter of Linda DeYoung. Tierra?s interests include playing musical instruments, reading, writing songs, writing poetry, and singing. She plans to attend cosmetology school in Petoskey, as well as a massage therapy school in Marquette. She will perform a flute solo to the song ?A Whole New World? by Alan Menken and Tim Rice.
