Tractor show rolls into Amy?s Arena for the weekend

People lined along State Street in Onaway on the Fourth were given a sneak preview of what is in store for this weekend?s sixth annual Onaway Antique Tractor Show.

If you forgot to count, there were 28 tractors in the Fourth of July parade, many of which will be at the show Saturday and Sunday at Amy?s Arena one mile east of town.

According to Tip of the Mitt Antique Tractor Association president Tim Hart, the parade was a chance to showcase some of the tractors that will be on display, and an opportunity to create added interest in the machines.

The tractor that received the most attention at the parade, with many people armed with digital cameras taking the most pictures, was an elevated tractor with a porch swing where the axle would be normally located. It was made for cultivating rice or tall corn. Hart said the unique tractor will be at this year?s show.

On tap for the 2006 show will be a parade, pig roast

, flea market, as well as tractor and lawn tractor pulls. The featured tractor for this year?s event will be Massey Ferguson.

While not listed, Friday is the official kickoff day with an antique tractor pull in the field event area beginning at 7 p.m.

Saturday, there will be a pig roast and parade at 1 p.m. Toward evening there will be a safari ride around Stoney Links golf course and back. That begins at 6 p.m.

In addition, there will be demonstrations going on throughout the day, a flea market, as well as various vendors. Hart said primitive camping will be offered at reasonable rate.

There were 98 tractors in last year?s show.
