Input sought in search for RC superintendent–by Peter Jakey

The Rogers City Area Schools Board of Education has launched its search for the district’s next superintendent. The board is providing an opportunity for community and staff input during the process. Teachers, administrators and other staff members and district residents are invited to attend one of four focus-group meetings planned for January 24. The meetings will take place in the Rogers City High School library. A meeting for district support staff will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., while teachers will meet at 3:15 p.m. The school board will convene for a special meeting from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., before receiving input from parents and members of the community between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Dr. John Jeffrey of the Michigan Leadership Institute will be facilitating the meetings to obtain a profile and desirable characteristics for the next superintendent. ?All meetings are open to anyone, including the public,? said Paul Mancine, who came out of retirement to assume the duties of interim superintendent. He later had the interim title removed, but will only be with the district until the end of June. ?Everyone is encouraged to attend to be part of this very important process,? said Mancine.

The board hopes to have the new administrator in place by July 1. Rogers City?s new superintendent also will be given the added duties of elementary principal. The board decided to combine the two administrative positions at the January 8 meeting.
