New Year?s baby arrives January 1

Aiden Christopher Lanter was born at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital a little more than nine hours into the New Year, which was about nine days before his due date. His timing was perfect, as Aiden was the first baby born in 2007 to a Presque Isle County couple. The infant and his family are the recipients of many gifts and services from area merchants as listed in last week?s Advance. Aiden is the son of Mandi Hilla and Christopher Lanter. Aiden was born at 9:02 a.m., weighing six pounds and 11 and one-half ounces. He was 19 inches long.

Aiden was having trouble breathing and had to be transported to Traverse City at 4 a.m., Tuesday to receive additional medical attention. Mandi, who was anxious to be released from CMH as soon as possible, and was recovering from a Caesarian birth, was pleased to be able to hold Aiden much of his first day with her. ?He is a blessing,? said Mandi. ?He is very alert, and recognizes voices.? She also said he likes to cuddle.

Aiden will be welcomed by brothers Nathan, ten, and Jacob, seven, when he is able to go home. His grandparents are Steven Lanter of Marine City, Susan Spies of St. Clair, Cheryl Smith of Columbiaville, and Randy Smith of Flushing.
