Spring break dates set as labor stalemate may be over

An announcement from the Rogers City Area School?s central office indicates a possible end to a recent labor impasse between the school board and teachers. As a result of the mediation session Monday, the parties will be referring a mediator’s recommendation to the Rogers City Area Schools Board of Education and the teachers’ association for ratification. No further details will be released pending ratification by both parties. However, both parties mutually agreed to immediately set and publish the date for spring break so that parents and staff can make plans.

Calls for scheduling spring break had been put on hold until some type of agreement could be reached to end the stalemate. Basically the break will be the second week of April as follows:

? Thursday, April 5 – full day of school with students dismissed at 3:00 p.m.

? Friday, April 6 – no school. Spring break begins.

? Monday, April 16 – school resumes with normal schedule. The school board had scheduled a special meeting Wednesday (past pres time). Further details will be published in an article next week. The teachers have been without a new contract since the beginning of September.
