Bednark named valedictorian for OHS class of 2007

Honor students for the 2007 class of Onaway High School were announced recently by superintendent/principal Bob Szymoniak. The 20 honor students head a graduating class of 55. Commencement will be conducted May 27 in the OHS gymnasium at 2 p.m.

Valedictorian, with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.98, is Bridget Bednark, daughter of Chris and Patricia Bednark of Millersburg. All three children of Chris and Patricia Bednark have earned Valedictorian honors.

Earning the role of Salutatorian is Gregory Ellenberger, son of Bob and Norma Ellenberger, with a GPA of 3.97.

The Honor Student for the class of 2007 is Christy Kowalski, the daughter of Lorrie Kowalski and Rick Kowalski, with her GPA of 3.94.

Bridget Bednark has participated in the OHS band and pep band all four years of her high school career. She also has been a member of the softball and girls? basketball teams since her freshman year.

Bednark is the current president of the National Honor Society, and was inducted during her sophomore year. She is a member of the Outdoor Recreation Club, Ski Club, and her Church Youth Group.

She participated in AAU basketball for three years, and coached the winning AAU team ?Supreme Court? this year. She has been a member of the Orange Team for two years, and also participated in Knowledge Bowl. Bednark has been a member of the homecoming court, and served as Queen her senior year. Bednark will be attending Michigan State University in the fall. She has enrolled in the Lyman Briggs School, intending to study medical science.

Gregory Ellenberger has been a member of the Art Club and Drama Club for four years. He has been a member of the OHS football team all four years of his high school career. Ellenberger played basketball and track for three years. He has been a member of the National Honor Society (current vice-president) for three years, and served on the Student Council for three years as well. Ellenberger is an Eagle Scout, and has been a member of the Orange Team for two years.

He has been in

volved in the Key Club (current vice-president) and Knowledge Bowl, and was a representative on the homecoming court his junior and senior years. This year, Ellenberger is a captain of the football team, track team, and Knowledge Bowl team. Ellenberger will attend Michigan Technological University in the fall to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Christy Kowalski has been a member of the OHS band and pep band for four years. She also has played basketball and softball all four years of her high school career. She played volleyball for three years, and also participated in AAU basketball and track.

Kowalski has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, and has been a member of the Orange Team. She was a homecoming representative her junior year. Kowalski plans to attend college after graduation.
