New York or bust!

Thirty-three senior students of Onaway High School, along with 12 chaperones, worked hard, remained focused, and met their goal of traveling to New York for the 2007 Senior Trip ? the first time since 1994 a senior group has organized such a feat.

The group left from OHS Thursday on a charter bus, and will return Tuesday afternoon. Senior advisor, Penny James, said the group should arrive in New York at 10:30 a.m. Friday ? just in time to visit the Statue of Liberty. They also will visit Ground Zero, the Empire State Building, Chinatown, Little Italy, Central Park, Wall Street, and Rockefeller Center.

The group plans to visit The Today Show on Monday at 7 a.m., hoping to earn a spot on television. They?ll be wearing bright yellow T-shirts that read: ?I was on the Today Show ? From Onaway to Broadway!? Tune in Monday morning to NBC! The students will attend The Phantom of the Opera on Monday evening.

Through fundraising efforts, the group was able to earn about $14,000 toward the trip, and paired with a $2,250 Communities First and NEMYAC grant, the group succeeded in alleviating the cost for each participant.
