Sawmill business shut down following Saturday blaze

Four area fire departments responded to a fire Saturday night, which gutted a sawmill business owned by Ken Nowak. The fire appears to have started in a shed and spread to the rest of the structure. According to fire chief Burke Wozniak, the cause of the fire may be a wood stove which got out of control. Crews from the Posen Fire Department were called to respond at 7:45 p.m. to the Oak Street blaze.

Rogers City, Long Rapids, and Maple Ridge were also called in for mutual aid for water hauling. Rogers City brought their pumper to the scene to assist. Posen crews had the scene secure by 10:10 p.m. There was water, smoke, and fire damage to the business. Nowak had no insurance on the building.
