Posen schedules make up games with St. Ignace, hosts tourney Saturday

To say the Viking softball team, or any ball team from the area that has been confined to the four walls of a gymnasium for the last three weeks, is ready for the season is a huge understatement. Posen has their annual tournament Saturday with Rudyard, Alcona, and Inland Lakes coming to town. The tourney had been conducted in May since its inception, but there is usually a lot going on that time of the calendar. This year, there happens to be a wedding involving former player Marlene Ciarkowski ? and half the team is supposed to be there. The good news for Glenn Budnick and company is May-like weather is expected to prevail heading into the weekend. Alcona and I.L. play in the early game at 10 a.m. Posen and Rudyard will follow that at 11:45 a.m.

There will be a consolation game and then the title tilt at about 3 p.m. or earlier. After last week?s snowstorms, the field is finally ready. The Vikes have had four games cancelled since April 10, two of them were against St. Ignace on Monday. The doubleheader had been rescheduled for Wednesday, but with a mix of rain and snow, the games were again looking at a rescheduling for Friday in Posen.

Budnick still expects to play about 30 games before the end of May. Jenny Ciarkowski is the expected starter in game one, while Brittany Styma is the game two starter. The Vikings are to stay outside from here on out, as they tore down the batting cage in the gym on Tuesday.
