Hincka breaks Ponik’s scoring mark

Jordan Hincka moved into the top spot of the all-time scoring list at Posen High School Friday night in the Vikings? 68-57 win over Hillman.

Hincka needed 21 points to pass all-stater Matt Ponik (Class of 2005) and nearly got that in the first half, finishing with 20 points at the break, tied with his former teammate. The two played on Posen?s 25-1 team, which went to the Class D state finals in 2005.

The record-breaker came at the 6:19 point of the third quarter, coming in typical Hincka fashion. He took a pass in the left corner, head-faked to the right, and then drove the left baseline for a bank shot off the glass. Moments later, he picked up a loose ball at mid-court, and took it all the way to the hoop for his 24th point of the night.

At that point, coach Steve Hentkowski called timeout as athletic director Wayne Karsten announced Hincka?s accomplishment. The large crowd stood to applaud Hincka before the game resumed.

When it did, the Vikings closed the third period with a 51-35 lead.

Hincka finished with 31 points on the night. Nick LaTulip scored 14 points and grabbed 20 rebounds while Paul Kroll tallied 13 points.

The JV Vikings took a 63-54 win over Hillman as Scott Couture scored 27. Nathan Street had 1 and Justin LaPointe added 13.
