Byrne?s contract extended through 2011

Following an hour-long closed session March 10, members of the Rogers City Area Schools Board of Education approved an extension of superintendent Dan Byrne?s contract through June 30, 2011.

Byrne?s contract calls for a yearly evaluation every March, although it seems like he was just evaluated. When he was hired last summer, John Jeffrey from the Michigan Leadership Institute, the firm hired to assist the district in the search for a new superintendent, recommended a six-month evaluation, which took place in January with glowing remarks. The results of the current evaluation, which will go

into Byrne?s personnel file, were received with similar results.

?WE ARE VERY happy with the job he has done to this point,? said board president Mike Marx. ?We felt it was in our best interest to offer him an additional year in his contract.? He was originally hired to a three-year contract and started July 1, 2007. It is his first superintendency. Byrne was evaluated on several categories. They include: relationship with the board; community relations; superintendent staff relationship; business and finance; educational leadership; personal qualities; achievement of goals; determined by the board of education.

In all categories, Byrne ?exceeded or met expectations. He has done everything that the board has expected of him.? Byrne also serves as principal at the Rogers City Elementary School.
