The Posen boys? basketball program had two players receive Class D all-state accolades from the Michigan Associated Press. Leading the way with one of several post-season honors is senior Jordan Hincka. Along with being the 2008 North Star League most valuable player, and breaking two prestigious scoring records at Posen High School, he is one of only six players from Class D to receive special mention on the all-state list.

?What a pleasure it was to coach this young man,? said head coach Steve Hentkowski. ?He?s as great of a player as he is a person.?

HINCKA?S RECORD-BREAKING year included the establishment of two new scoring marks. He is now the all-time scoring leader at PHS with 1,530 points. Hincka?s four year scoring average was 16.3 points per game. He put in 26.3 points per game during the 2007-08 season. He also set a new single-season scoring standard with 579 points. Hincka also was named to the Class D special team by the sports writers of the Detroit Free Press, along with the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan?s Class D all-star team.

Senior Nick LaTulip was an AP all-state honorable mention. Hentkowski said ?stats will not be provided? for the center, who was suspended twice during the season. Paul Kroll earned second team all-conference honors, while fellow senior Nick Idalski was an honorable mention. ?I?m very disappointed that Nick Delekta wasn?t mentioned,? said Hentkowski.

The VIKINGS finished their season with a 16-6 record, earned

a share of the North Star League crown, and went onto win a record-breaking fifth consecutive district championship. The season came to an end at regionals against Bellaire. Hentkowski said one of the highlights of the season was a win on the final night of the regular season against Mio, which gave the Vikes a share of the league title. The coach also was impressed with one of his seniors who stepped into the spotlight in the post season.

?Nick Delekta turned in an awesome performance,? said Hentkowski. He also was impressed with the way the team came together in the days following the suspension of two players.

?I?m going to miss these guys. They were a great group to coach. They worked hard, but as high school sports goes, you move on,? said Hentkowski. ?I?m looking forward to reloading for next season.?
