Kimball crowned Miss Onaway

Chemistry may not have equaled love during her talent presentation, but Hailey Kimball certainly won the judges over as she was crowned Miss Onaway 2008 last Friday.

Kimball, the 17 year-old daughter of Rocky and Jackie Kimball, will be a senior at Onaway High School in the fall. Kimball performed an original skit in which she performed three different chemistry experiments in an effort to make herself a boyfriend, none of which worked. She was the ticket sales award winner, Miss Photogenic, and won the evening gown portion of the pageant as well as being named queen.

As queen Kimball will be the recipient of a $1,250 scholarship in addition to her crown and sash. Kimball was sponsored by K & K Sawmill, Onaway Chiropractic and Painter Petroleum.

First runner-up Aurora Light performed ?Suds in the Bucket? by Sara Evans and won over the judges to win the talent award. She also was the coordination award winner. Light is the 18 year-old daughter of Eddie Light and graduated from Onaway High School earlier this month. She will be attending Alpena Community College in the fall. Light was sponsored by Lyon?s Motel, Parrott?s Outpost, Sally?s Hairstyling and Twiztid Tattoos.

Second runner-up was Laura Nash, the 17 year-old daughter of Robert and Kathie Nash. For her talent she performed her rendition of the popular John Denver song ?Thank God I?m a Country Boy? changing it to ?Thank God I?m a Country Girl?. Her talent presentation featured a slideshow that went with the song. Nash will be a senior at Cheboygan High School in the fall. Nash was sponsored by Nash Forest Products, Sally?s Hairstyling and Woodwinds Restaurant.

Shaylee Sachs, the 16 year-old daughter of Troy and Patty Sachs, will be a senior at Onaway High School in the fall and was voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow court members. Sachs performed Reba McEntire?s ?My Sister? for her talent. Sachs was sponsored by Dan Dougherty of Statewide Real Estate of Onaway.

Stephanie Ellsworth, the 17 year-old daughter of Larry and Mary Ann Ellsworth, performed a dance to ?As I Am (Intro)? by Alicia Keys for her talent. Ellsworth will be a junior at Onaway High School in the fall. Ellsworth was sponsored by Dairy Queen, Dan Dougherty of Statewide Real Estate of Onaway, Hammond Bay Trading Company, and Roy and Donna Berry.

Paige Lupu put on her cowboy boots and flannel and performed ?Amarillo Sky? by Jaso

n Aldean for the talent portion of the pageant. Lupu is the 17 year-old daughter of Tom and Theresa Lupu and graduated from Onaway High School this June. Lupu will be attending North Central Michigan College in the fall. Lupu was sponsored by Sunrise Communications, VFW Ladies? Auxiliary and VFW Post 5857.

The theme for this years pageant was ?Psychedelic 60s.? the opening number was done to Nancy Sinatra?s ?These Boots Are Made For Walking?. The pageant marked the end of Miss Onaway 2007 Alysa Olree?s time as queen, and she provided entertainment for the evening by playing three selections on the piano.

Following the pageant there was a queen?s reception catered by Manzana?s Deli.
