Family Fun Day in Rogers City ends with the bang of fireworks

With beautiful July weather and plenty of activities planned at Lakeside Park, the second annual Family Fun Day in Rogers City was a success. The event, sponsored by the Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce and Carmeuse featured inflatable bounce rides from Air Time Amusements in Alpena, face painting, a clown making balloon hats and animals, two concerts, equipment viewing and was capped off by a fireworks display at dusk.

?We were very pleased with the turnout we had, the number of families that came to enjoy the day. The rides, face painting and the clown had lines of children waiting almost all day. We estimate that about 60 children got their faces painted,? said chamber of commerce executive director Dave Snow.

Air Time Amusements

brought three blow up, bounce rides; a pirate slide, a moon walk area for smaller children and another slide and bounce area. Originally the rides were to be open until 6 p.m. when the concerts began but they stayed open until 8 p.m. and according to Snow were well used up until the time they were taken down. The concerts were well attended and enjoyed by those according to Snow. ?One of the things people kept asking us at the Chamber tent was where do we pay? Where do we get tickets for the rides? I had to keep telling people it was free, the community sponsors made the event possible for all to enjoy,? said Snow.

Family Fun Day started last year the Saturday following the Fourth of July and the chamber kept that scheduling this year, however, next year with the Fourth of July falling on a Saturday the Chamber board will have some decisions to make; whether or not to have the fun day on the Fourth of July and compete with neighboring communities that have events for the holiday, or to move it to a different weekend to eliminate that competition for attendance.
