Four to contend for title of Miss Rogers City 2008

Four talented young women are in the final few days of preparation for the 2008 Miss Rogers City Queen?s Pageant set for July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Rogers City Theater. One will be crowned Miss Rogers City, 2008, while the 2007 winner, Ashley Basel, ends her reign.

For the first time the event has been moved from the Rogers City High School (RCHS) to the theater, thanks to the cooperation of theater owner Karl W. Heidemann. Pennie Kelly, in her 12th year as pageant director, said Heidemann?s generosity and creative spirit has cleared the way for what should be a great pageant.

?The show is going to be beautiful. The sound and lighting are a perfect setting for what should be an entertaining pageant,? Kelly said. The contestants are Jessica Ruppert, Kaelie Florip, Lynnea Urban and Jordyn Lamb.

Jessica Ruppert, contestant number one, is the daughter of Dawn and Scott Cooper and will be a senior at RCHS in the fall. She is involved in the Key Club, Close Up Washington, National Honors Society, cheerleading and track. ?After receiving my honors diploma, I plan to attend Central Michigan University to become a music teacher,? she said. ?I would love to represent Rogers City in a positive manner.? Jessica will sing Sugerland’s ?Settlin?? for her talent presentation.

Contestant number two, Kaelie Florip, is the daughter of Janice Florip. She will be a senior at RCHS in the fall where she has been involved in bowling, softball, volleyball, the Bigs and Littles, Key Club, Y-Care and Natural Helpers. ?I am planning to go to Alpena Community College for two years and maybe find a career in either law enforcement, owning a restaurant or becoming a photographer,? she said. ?I entered the pageant to be a good role model for my nieces and nephew, also to have fun and hopefully do something good for Rogers City.? Kaelie will sing ?Tattoo? by Jordin Sparks for her talent presentation.

Lynnea Urban, daughter of Ted and Jenny Urban, is contestant number three. She will be a senior at RCHS in the fall where she has been involved in the National Honors Society, Natural Helpers, and Close Up Washington and has served as assistant cheerleading coach for the Bears. ?After graduating from RCHS, I plan to attend the University of Michigan and obtain a bachelor?s degree in architecture,? she said. ?I?ve wanted to be in the pageant since I was a little girl.? Lynnea will present a flute instrumental to ?My Heart Will Go On.?

Contestant number four is Jordyn Lamb, who will be a junior at RCHS in the fall. She is the daughter of Riconda and Richard Lamb. In her high school career, she has been involved in the Key Club, National Honors Society, Y-Care, basketball, competitive dance and volunteering. ?In the future I would like to attend college at Alpena Community College and Central Michigan University. I have not yet determined my field of study,? she said. ?I entered this pageant to prove to myself and to my family and friends that I could do thi

s.? Jordyn will perform an a cappella tap dance for her talent presentation.

BASEL, LAST year?s talent winner, will perform as will first runner-up Morgan Schuiteman, who will dance with her sister Logan. Morgan Suszek, a RCHS grad currently studying in California with the Young Americans, will perform a hip-hop dance. RCHS senior Michael Idalski will sing, as will pageant director Pennie Kelly. Kelly will be joined by Basel, Morgan Schuiteman and Suszek, who will dance while she sings. Kelly said that seating is limited, but tickets can be purchased from the theater box office or from one of the contestants.

Morgan Schuiteman and Basel choreographed the opening number with the theme ?Honoring Our Heroes.? Art Ross returns for his 10th consecutive year as master of ceremonies while Andrea Shadbolt and Charlie Harp will operate the lights and Steve Schulwitz handles the sound duties.
