Hunting success for women named Sharon

Sharon Delekta, 53, of Rogers City has only been hunting for four years. In that time, she has had some amazing success. Her first bucks were five- and six-pointers, but as most hunters do, she dreamed of that monster buck coming into view during the two-week firearm deer season. Delekta?s dream was realized on the morning of the opener when she got a buck she has called ?Big Daddy.? It was an eight-point buck which field dressed at 192-pounds. Delekta had been hunting at the camp, ?Can?t Hardly Tell,? north of Rogers City. Sharon could hardly contain her emotions when the hunt was over.

?WHEN I WAS sitting there I was saying, ?Lord, let me see that Big Daddy this year.? And, my God, he came out,? she said. Delekta was sitting in the blind with her husband Dan. ?The doe came out first at about 25 after seven,? said Delekta. ?About 10 minutes after that, the big buck came out. My husband was sitting behind me — not saying a word.? Delekta took the shot from 150 yards away. ?He was so proud of me,? she said. ?I shot it perfectly.? The buck ran for a short distance, but when Dan and Sharon tracked him down, she almost fainted. ?It is a good thing he was standing right behind me,? she said. Sharon plans on getting the deer?s head mounted and placed in her living room. It was a good weekend for the ladies ? or just women named Sharon.

SHARON CASTALDI?S first ever deer ended up being a six-point buck. She shot it Monday. Sharon and her husband Rodney moved to Alpena from Phoenix, Arizona three years ago. Sharon has been hunting for a couple of years but never had the opportunity to shoot anything. For this hunting season, Sharon and Rodney decided to ask her father, Marshall Romanowski, 75, who was born and raised in Posen, to come up and hunt with her. Marshall lives in Dearborn Heights, but still owns property in Posen.

On Saturday morning, opening day, Marshall and Sharon journeyed into the woods only to come back empty handed. On Sunday, just like Saturday, they headed for the same blind; however, this time the ending of the story would be much different. ?Earlier

that morning, Sharon took me and my two friends, Rob and Jeremiah, to our hunting spots and dropped us off,? said Rodney. ?She returned to the camp, got ready and walked with her father to his favorite hunting spot.?

Later that day Sharon came to pick us up. As the passenger window rolled down, Rodney asked her if she saw anything and while raising an empty shell casing, a very excited, and little shaken voice said ?we need to go find the other part of my shell.? Sharon wasn?t 100 percent sure she shot the deer and were unsuccessful in tracking it at first, but quickly found a blood trail and found it.

?We got Sharon?s buck up to the camp where we took photos and began sharing the moment with all our friends and family,? said Rodney. ?I guess this goes to show you that even though your little girl may be all grown up, she will always truly be daddy?s little girl.?
