Bowlers see first action of the season at TC

The Rogers City bowling teams traveled to the Traverse City Titan tournament over the weekend and although the scores were not to great, the results were good.

The boys? team qualified second with 3373 after three regular style games and four baker games. Leading the way for the Hurons was Robert Dietlin who rolled a 193, 205 and a 201 to finish first at the tournament with a 599. Tom Darga would finish seventh with a 547 (181, 184, 182).

Devon Ferris was 12th (523), Lucas Bellmore was 13th (522). Alec Gajewski and Tony Bannasch also bowled for the Hurons. Each rolled one game and split another game on the day.

After qualifying second for bracket play the Hurons were pitted against Traverse City Central in two baker games winning 350-327.

In round two of bracket play against Rockford, Rogers City would roll a 189 and 167 to defeat Rockford 356-311.

The finals would pit the number-one qualifying team, Sterling Heights Stevenson (3589) against the Hurons. The Hurons struggled to bowl well and lost the match 356-289 to take second place.

THE GIRLS? team would qualify in eighth place (2291) on a day where the team?s two seniors, Kaelie Florip

and Ashley Bellmore, did not bowl and three new faces stood on the alleys in the Huron uniform, Brogan Brege, Cheyenne DuVerney and Liz Atkins. Qualifying eighth, the Hurons faced off against number-one seed Sterling Heights Stevenson. In game one of the match, the Hurons would win 159-135 but dropped game two 172-116 to lose 307-275, ending their day.

Junior Tayler Bannasch led the way for Rogers City finishing in 10th place with a 461 series (163, 166, 132). Sophomore Katie Darga finished 16th with 422 (129, 172, 121). Brege finished 39th with 315, DuVerney was 41st with 292 and Atkins 54th with 240.

The Hurons are off until January 10 when the conference season will begin at Gaylord Bowling Center. The conference season will have the Hurons bowling every Saturday through February 14 when they battle for the conference title at Nautical Lanes. All matches begin at 10 a.m.
