Cedarville takes 80-34 win over Hurons

Cedarville used a pressing defense and great outside shooting to hand the Hurons an 80-34 loss in the U.P. Tuesday.

The home team ran up a 27-10 led after the first quarter and led 56-16 at halftime. ?They took no prisoners. The plan I had to keep the score down a little went out the window right away. They trapped us up high right away, so we couldn?t do that,? said coach Tom Adrian.

?THEY ABSOLUTELY can shoot the lights out and you can?t do anything about that.? Cedarville extended the lead to 67-24 at the end of the third quarter. Justin Idalski?s eight points were high on the Hurons who fell to 1-2 with the loss. The Huron junior varsity suffered a 73-42 loss to Cedarville. The J.V. squad hung with Cedarville in the opening quarter, trailing only 23-17, but trailed 37-24 at halftime and 58-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Devin Hilla and Joe Kaszubowski each scored nine points for the Hurons. Last week at Rudyard, the Hurons fell behind 21-6 at the end of the first quarter leading to a 79-35 loss to the Bulldogs.

ROGERS CITY TRAILED 41-17 at halftime as the Bulldogs increased their lead over the visitors.

Coach Adrian said the Hurons had trouble hitting the open shot, and were troubled by the constantly changing defenses put up by Rudyard.

Idalski had 11 points and Erik Meharg added seven in the loss.

The junior varsity lost 64-37, never able to overcome a 14-2 deficit at the end of the first quarter. Rudyard led 28-13 at halftime and 47-29 at the end of the third quarter. Kaszubowski had 13 points, Jordan Bellmore scored 10 and Chris Waibel added eight. The Hurons host St. Ignace Friday and play at Hillman Monday in the last game before the break.
