County board to elect new leaders

Presque Isle County clerk Sue Rhode, who begins her third term in office today, will convene the annual organizational meeting Monday at 9:30 a.m.

The winds of change already blew through the county during the August primary and November general election when chairman Allan Bruder and vice chair Stephen Lang lost their re-election bids. Both men combined for eight years in their respective leadership roles. Bruder finished his sixth year as chairman in 2008.

One of the first orders of business will be the election of a new chairman. Rhode will call to order the three incumbent commissioners Bob Schell, Carl Altman and Mike Darga, as well as the newly elected commissioners, Kris Sorgenfrei and Michael Grohowski, who will be sworn into office.

After the new chairman is in place, Rhode will pass the gavel and the board will appoint a vice chair.

Altman is the only one of the three incumbents to serve as chairman. Other agenda items include the adoption of the rules of order; establishing meeting dates; approval of disclosure resolutions; as well as 2009 committee appointments.
