The Presque Isle County Sheriff?s Department is investigating a rash of breaking and enterings over the last couple of weeks.

Deputies have confirmed three B & Es in the Bonz Beach Highway area, along the south shore of Black Lake, two on Twin School Highway and others on Red Pine and White Pine Highways. There also was an attempted B & E along Palmer Road.

Sgt. John Kasuba said officers have collected evidence and believe the crimes are related.

The department is looking for three male suspects in a full size pickup truck, and any suspicious vehicle of its kind should be called into to the sheriff?s department at 989-734-2156. The callers may remain anonymous.

KASUBA SAID subjects are targeting unoccupied camps and cabins. The initial complaint Wednesday was the report of a B & E along Bonz Beach Highway, near M-211. The caller said his garage had been broken into. Upon further investigation officers found a total of six buildings at four residences that were entered the night of December 16 after midnight.

Evidence was collected at the scenes, which has been linked to a B & E occurring at 20080 Twin School Highway.

In that case thieves stole a 1996 Polaris snowmobile from a garage at the Richard Shiveley Jr. residence. The B & E was reported December 11 at 6:14 p.m. The machine has purple skis and a purple belly pan. The value wa

s placed at between $1,800 and $2,000. Kasuba said it appears thieves returned to take additional snowmobiles and were thwarted by the owner.

?THE SUSPECTS returned, busted into the garage and attempted to remove three snowmobiles that were there,? said Kasuba. ?In the meantime, the owner had chained them together. Suspects then vandalized the machines and moved some stuff around in an attempt to gain access to other items at the residence.

Three officers were tied up Wednesday for three to four hours in the Onaway area, doing follow-up work. ?The case is being actively pursued,? said Kasuba.

In the meantime, as a reminder to residence of North Allis and Bearinger Township, as well as others in the county, Kasuba urged folks to leave lights on, make tracks in the snow for neighbors who are not home for extended periods and pick up mail and newspapers. He also said, ?keep an eye on your neighbor?s place.?
