Crash claims three lives in Onaway

A car crash on Hutchinson Highway north of Onaway claimed three lives Monday.

Presque Isle central dispatch received a 911 call reporting a head-on crash Monday, January 26 at 12:12 p.m. The call reported the accident as a two-vehicle head-on crash on Hutchinson Highway one-half mile east of Highway M-211.

Sheriff?s Department deputies determined that a 16 year-old male, driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck with five passengers collided with a 1991 Oldsmobile. According to the Sheriff?s Department, the Ford F-150 was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed when it crossed the centerline striking the 1991 Oldsmobile, which was traveling westbound.

All three passengers occupying the Oldsmobile were pr

onounced dead at the scene. Victims are the driver of the car, Nicholas Stuifbergen, age 23, passenger Leann Shoulders, age 27, and Debra Stuifbergen, age 51. All were residents of the Onaway Area.

Three individuals from the pickup truck were taken to Northern Michigan Hospital and Cheboygan Memorial Hospital.

Onaway Ambulance, Cheboygan Life Support and Allied Ambulance as were dispatched to the scene as well as Onaway Fire Department and Case Township Fire Department. The Alpena Sheriff?s Department and the Michigan State Police assisted Presque Isle Sheriff?s Department accident investigation team.

The accident is still under investigation.
