Posen had its highest scoring output of the season in their first win on the home floor. On the strength of Scott Couture?s career-best 25 points and Shane Hentkowski?s career-tying best of 20, the Vikings (4-6 league, 4-9 overall) knocked off Arenac Eastern in the homecoming game, 75-51.

?I thought the entire team played well,? said head coach Steve Hentkowski. The previous team-high for points was 62.

Arenac was using its size to win the rebound battle and was striking from inside against Posen. It helped the visitors take a five-point lead with a couple of minutes left in the first half.

That?s when Couture heated up from outside, scoring the next 12 points for Posen through the end of the second quarter and into the start of the third. ARENAC STILL hung on to the lead, 38-35, with 5:30 left in the third when the Posen?s zone trap started wearing Arenac thin.

?In the second half, I told them we have to run, because they had the bigger squad and they were getting a lot more rebounds than us,? said Hentkowski. ?We figured we could out hustle them, and that?s what it came down to in the end.? Tyson Klecha lead the defensive charge with eight steals.

?It was a good game all around,? said Hentkowski. The only area of concern was the poor free throw shooting in the first half. They put down only 40 percent of their attempts. Another highlight came from Robert Klein, who scored his first field of his career, a layup that didn?t come without a lot of resistance from

the Eagle defense.

The Vikes are at Hale tomorrow, before the next home date against Atlanta on Tuesday. The varsity shot well against Cedarville, a season best 45 percent, but still came up on the losing end in a game played February 4. The final score was 78-38.

Couture had 12, while Luke Bruski reached double digits with 10, another varsity best. THE J.V. (6-7) won their half of the homecoming night doubleheader, 54-26. Tyler Kuffel lead all scorers with 14 points, but also added 15 rebounds, which was tied with Travis Hirschman. Jacob Boyke broke through with 11 and David Kerr had 10.

The junior Vikes lost 78-48 to Cedarville. Hirschman topped the scoring sheet with 16, while Kerr put in 13.
