District time is almost here for the Posen boys? basketball team, but first they have a makeup game against Mio in the last home game of the season. It will be ?pack the house? night at Posen High School with everyone wearing red or white and getting in for a buck.

Last Friday?s game was canceled because of a snowstorm. The Vikes are coming off one of the most exciting wins of the season at Oscoda, 46-44, a game played more than a week ago.

Mio should provide a good tuneup for Posen as the boys head into playoff action at Johannesburg-Lewiston next week. The Vikings received an opening night bye, with the first action Wednesday against the winner of the Johannesburg-Lewiston/Onaway contest. Atlanta and tournament favorite Hillman get next Wednesday’s doubleheader going.

The Oscoda game February 25 provided the biggest comeback of the season with Posen trailing by six points with 59 seconds to go. The teams played nearly even until the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

“I CALLED OUR last timeout and told the boys they had to dig in on defense and ga

mble to steal the ball,” said Posen coach Steve Hentkowski. The Owls missed a shot, and after the Vikings got the rebound, the ball was put in the hands of Scott Couture who went in for a layup.

Aaron Romel, who deflected a pass, made a key steal. Couture came through with a three-pointer with 17 seconds left. Again, the defense would come through with Shane Hentkowski stealing an inbound pass. He was fouled and calmly made both to give the Vikes a 45-44 lead. In the closing seconds, Hentkowski was fouled again after stealing another inbound pass. He made the second of two for the final margin.

“Some great defense by Jerome Ciarkowski forced Oscoda’s final shot to fall short,” said Hentkowski. “Ciarkowski was huge in this game, grabbing 13 rebounds and tossing in seven points.” Hentkowski had five of his 18 points in the fourth quarter. “This was a great team win, I’m glad the way they responded at the end and never gave up.”
