Coach expresses disappointment in first outing

Posen baseball coach Pat Kowalski was not in the mood to accept any excuses about his ball club being outside for the first time this season. The Vikings lost 15-6 Tuesday afternoon on the County League Field. The second game of the doubleheader was called after two innings because of darkness. Kowalski said there were a few bright spots, including freshman pitcher Jerome Ciarkowski pitching three scoreless innings of relief.

Kowalski will be looking for a whole lot better execution from his club in the coming days and there will be lots of action in the next 10 days. They play a doubleheader today against Alanson and a pair Monday in the North Star League opener when Au Gres comes to town. The boys then travel to Oscoda Tuesday.

?I?M VERY disappointed in our baseball team,? said Kowalski in the dugout, as the equipment was getting packed away and his players headed home. ?We pride ourselves in making the routine plays and we didn?t do that today, regardless if it was the first time out or not.

It was the first time out for the other ball club also.

?We made some mistakes out on the field, which also was very discouraging for me, because it almost made it look like some of my baseball players had never played the game before and didn?t know what to do or where to go.?

Pitching-wise, senior Tyson Klecha and sophomore Shane Hentkowski combined for seven walks and two hit batters in the first three innings. ?We?ve got a lot of work to do,? said Kowalski. ?I appreciate Rudyard coming down to play us, I wish we would have given them a better ball game.? Klecha was tagged with the loss.

Junior Luke Bruski and sophomore Justin LaPointe both ripped doubles that made it to the fence, while sophomore Patrick Schuch had an RBI single. Klecha and Hentkowski also were 1-for-2.
