Golfers fall to Onaway in tiebreaker
The Huron golf team enjoyed their first good weather match of the season Friday at Stoney Links in Onaway for a 9-hole dual meet against the Cardinals. The format was to have six golfers shoot varsity with the top four scores counting. The two teams finished in a tie at 184 and for the tiebreaker went to the fifth man?s score, when Rogers City would lose by a stroke.
Senior Al Gajewski led the Hurons with a 43 followed by fellow senior Jake Vogler who shot a 45. Zach Munn would also shoot a 45 and Gary Senff shot a 51 to give the Hurons 184 total. Tyler Thompson and Chris Peacock tied with 54 to round out the Huron varsity team. Onaway?s fifth man shot a 53 to defeat the Hurons as Thompson shot 54. In junior varsity action Alec Brietzke shot a 53 while Nick Kamyszek shot a 62.
?My team realized how important every stroke is today. There were at least a dozen easy shots that could?ve been made, mostly on short putts,? said coach David Haselhuhn.
