Hurons compete in two St. Ignace meets

The Huron track teams traveled to St. Ignace Tuesday and Friday for meets, one a conference meet and one an invitational. Tuesdays conference meet saw the Huron girls finishing third behind St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie despite some solid performances.

Senior Kaylee Kreft placed first in the mile with a time of 6:05.7, beating her nearest competitor by more than 40 seconds. Kreft would also win the two-mile with a time of 13:08.03, nearly 30 seconds better than the second place finisher. Becky Talaske took first place in the discus for the Hurons with a throw of 64? 2?. Heather Luetzow placed second

in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.75. Sierra Centala was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:58.12 and Anna Wickersham was third in the high jump at 4? 6?.

The Huron boys also finished in third place despite some good individual performances. Aaron Wilbert took first in the two-mile with a time of 11:23.46 edging out teammate Joey Sobeck who finished in 11:35.56 for second place. Evan Wagner was first in the high jump at 5? 10? and Sobeck took second in the mile wit a time of 5:32.63. The two-mile relay team of Sobeck, Wilbert, Chris Vogelheim and Justin LaLonde was second with 9:56.33.

FRIDAY IN ST. IGNACE Kreft place third in the mile (5:57.78), fifth in the 800-meter run (2:42.98) and fifth in the two-mile (13:45.24). Leilani Kortman was second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.1 and Centala was fifth in the long jump at 12? 5 ??. For the boys? team Zak McLennan was fourth in the 800-meter run at 2:18.03 and Wagner and Brandon Haneckow tied for fourth in the high jump at 5? 8?. The two-mile relay team places second at 9:10.60 (McLennan, Sobeck, LaLonde and Vogelheim). The Huron track team is back in action Friday at Manton and will compete Monday at Central Lake before Regionals on May 16 in Bellaire.
