Purol dashes her way to first place medals

Nicole Purol took first in the 200-meter sprint Tuesday at the Au Gres Invitational. Her time of 28.80 seconds was .05 ahead of Fairview?s Tia Rogers. It was Purol?s fastest time ever in the event. Purol also was first in the 400-meter with a time of 1:04.72. Natasha Finley was second in the shot put (29? 3?), at only 2? behind first, and third in the discus with a throw of 74? 5?. The 800-meter relay team of Victoria Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Elysha Peters and Purol took third (2:03.47).

Setting a new personal best was the 3,200-meter relay team of Bonnie Schmitz, Emily Kroll, Lindsey Bartz and Mulka. Their fourth place time was 12:41.08.. The Posen girls earned an overall fifth place, 12 points behind fourth place Oscoda, and 11 ahead of Alcona.

Corey Hentkowski set new personal records (PR) in three events and took first in the long jump (20? 1?). His new PR?s came in the 100-meter dash (11.83, second place), 200-meter dash (24.30, second) and the shot put (36? 8 ?, fifth). The boys finished with 28 points in seventh place overall. Only three athletes scored points.

AT MANCELONA last Friday, Hentkowski took first in the long jump (18? 10?), while the girls had several new PR?s. Purol had the only first in the 400-meter dash (1:04.90, PR). Other PR?s follow: Finley, shot put (third, 30? 4?); Bartz, discus (69? 1 ??, fifth); Tracy Mulka, discus (61? 11 ??, sixth); and Julia Lewandowski, 100-meter dash (14.59). Relay teams also set new standards to beat. They include the 800-meter squad of Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Schmitz, Purol (2:01, fifth); 400-meter team of Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Schmitz, Lewandowski (58.14, fourth); and the 1,600-meter team of Schmitz, Tina Mulka, Wozniak and Purol (5:04, fourth). Next on the schedule will be Hillman Friday and then Monday at Joburg
