Dave Snow, executive director of the Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce, along with the chamber board have been busy planning a wide variety of events for this summer in Rogers City.

The chamber has taken over from the city the responsibility for the summer concert series held at Lakeside Park throughout the summer. As of Monday the chamber had scheduled five concerts plus an additional concert coordinated by the efforts of the Presque Isle District Library (PIDL); Snow is working on two more concerts and hopes to have word on those by Wednesday.

The summer concert series consists of the city band concerts held every Thursday night at 7 p.m. beginning on June 4 through July. In addition they kick off the Nautical City Festival with a concert on August 4. Additional concerts scheduled are; June 13 ? The Huron Shores Chorus, a showcase of local barbershop talent, June 26 ? Reasonable Facsimile, presented by PIDL to kick off the summer reading program, July 5 ? Chasin? Steel, an authentic 5-piece bluegrass band, July 10 ? ONLY9AM and Messenger perform a soft Christian rock concert and July 17 ? The Petoskey Steel Drum band, a 21-member steel drum band featuring Calypso and Reggae music.

The annual citywide garage sales will be on June 12 and 13 in Rogers City, those interested in participating can sign up at the chamber office located on Bradley Highway. A $10 fee is charged for registration and all registered sales will be put on the map, Snow anticipates that 1,000-1,200 copies will be distributed when they are final. The deadline to register for the sales is June 8.

In conjunction with the citywide garage sales is the spring arts and crafts show held at Westminster Park on Third Street. This year the arts and crafts show will be a two-day event running June 13 and 14. In the past the show has been a one-day event. About 60 spaces are available in the park. Spaces are available in 10-by-10-foot sizes ($50) as well as 10-by-20-foot spaces ($70).

Family Fun Day has become a major event in Rogers City, this will be the third year fo

r the event to be held on July 5 at Lakeside Park. The event will feature bounce attractions for children, giveaways, food, a summer concert and a fireworks display.

Something new the chamber is doing, pending approval of their raffle license with the State of Michigan is a raffle for a Yamaha Rhino 4-wheeler, a 37? LCD (liquid crystal display) television, a digital camera, a laptop computer and $250 cash. The proceeds will benefit the chamber. Snow is hopeful to have tickets on sale around Memorial Day for $20 and the drawing will be held at 8 p.m. on the Sunday of Nautical Festival under the big tent.

The chamber will also be putting on two dinners in conjunction with other events this summer. June 19 at the Rogers City Area Senior and Community Center the chamber will host a fundraiser dinner for those participating in the Sunrise Adventure Bicycle Tour. On June 29, the Huron Double Handed Challenge finishes in Rogers City with a dinner hosted by the chamber. This is the 25th anniversary of the challenge finishing in Rogers City.
