Track teams compete in Alpena; three prepare for state

The Rogers City track teams traveled to the Alpena News Honor Roll meet Tuesday for their final meet of the season. Three Hurons will compete in the state finals Saturday in Grand Rapids. For the final meet of the season junior Evan Wagner won the high jump at 6? 2?, a new meet record. State qualifier and teammate Brandon Haneckow finished sixth as he jumped 5? 10?. Senior Zak McLennan was third in the mile with a time of 4:58.502. For the girls, senior Anna Wickersham was sixth in the discus at 76? 1? and fifth in the high jump as she cleared 4? 6?.

Sophomore Leilani Kortman was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.143 and fourth in the long jump at 13? 8 ??. Kortman was also third in the 300-meter hurdles at 54.88. Sierra Centala was third in the mile with a time of 6:16.974 and seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:50.307. State qualifier Heather Luetzow was third in the 400-meter dash at 1:04.773 and sixth in the 200-meter dash at 30.506.

Haneckow, Luetzow and Kaylee Kreft will now prepare to compete at the state finals over the weekend. Haneckow will be competing in the high jump, Luetzow the 400-meter dash and Kreft the two-mile.
