Viking track teams compete twice on the week, regionals set for Saturday.

Monday the Viking track team traveled to the Johannesburg-Lewiston Invitational and Friday they competed at the Hillman Invitational on a week where many athletes set personal records as they look to qualify for the state finals at regional action in Bellaire Saturday.

The girls? team placed seventh out of 13 teams Monday in Joburg. Natasha Finley set a personal record as she took first place in the discus at 88? 5?. Finley was third in the shot put with a throw of 28? 5 ??. Tracy Mulka also set a personal record in the discus at 69? 9?. Nicole Purol won the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.85. The 400-meter relay team of Victoria Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Julia Lewandowski and Purol set a personal record as they took second at 55.74.

The two-mile relay team of Bonnie Schmitz, Tina Mulka, Emily Kroll and Lindsey Bartz took fifth place with a time of 12:41.94 while the 800-meter relay team of Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Lewandowski and Purol was fourth at 1:59.58. The mile relay team of Schmitz, Tina Mulka, Purol and Lewandowski set a personal record finishing in 4:53.08 for fifth place.

The boys? team took 11th place Monday. Corey Hentkowski continued his dominance in the long jump event taking first place with a jump of 19? 6 ??. Hentkowski was also sixth in the 200-meter dash at 24.64. Mike Metivier was sixth in the discus at 106? 6? and the 400-meter relay team of David Kerr, Jacob Boyke, Metivier and Hentkowski was fifth at 48.47.

FRIDAY AT HILLMAN the boys? team placed sixth on a day when six personal records would be set. The 800-meter relay team of Kerr, Boyke, Metivier and Hentkowski set a new record for themselves with their fourth place finish in 1:40.87. Kerr set personal records in the 400-meter dash (56.42) and 200-meter dash (25.029) as he took seventh place in both events. Hentkowski has a new personal best in the 200-meter dash as he ran it in 24.145 good for second place. Boyke also set a personal best in the 200-meter dash as he finished in 25.70. Metivier set a new personal best in the discus as he hurled the disk 111? on the nose. Hentkowski again dominated the long jump pit as he won with a jump of 19? 7 ??. Not to be outdone the girls? team set eight new personal records on the day. The 800-meter relay team of Wozniak, Tina Mulka, Lewandowski and Purol took first place while setting a record of 1:57.44. The four also combined for a new personal best in the 400-meter relay with a time of 56.20 as they again took first place.

400-meter run with times of 14.498 and 14.55 respectively to place fifth and sixth. Kroll had a personal best in the 800-meter run as she finished in 3:02.08 to take third place. Purol ran the 200-meter dash in her best time of 28.338 to take second place while teammate Wozniak set a new personal best at 30.34 to finish in fifth place. The discus event saw two new personal records set by Vikings as they took places 3-6. Finley took third with a throw of 83?, Tracy Mulka took fourth with a throw of 69?3?, both personal bests. Bartz placed fifth at 63?2?. Finley would also win the shot put event at 27? 8 ??.

The track teams were back in action in Oscoda Wednesday (after press time) and will travel to regionals on Saturday in Bellaire.
