Athletic Boosters elect officers for 2009-2010

Officers have been elected to lead the Hurons Athletic Boosters Association in the upcoming school year. Jay Schuiteman was re-elected president, while Heidi Tulgestke and Sue Grulke will return as vice president and secretary, respectively. Aimee Krueger was elected treasurer, succeeding Lisa Kortman in that position. Sixteen people attended Monday night’s monthly meeting.

Committee chairs were named for the next school year. Heading up the committees will be Steve Calabrese, fundraising; Deb Schuiteman and Aimee Krueger, concessions; 50-50s, Sarah Brege; and Jay Schuiteman and Kristi Smolinski, uniforms. The boosters talked about plans to operate three concessions stands at the Nautical Festival.

On Saturday, August 8 only, the boosters will sell food and beverages at locations where softball games will be

played: the Little League fields, Gilpin Field, and Sports Park. A special meeting to plan for the sales will be conducted Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m. in Rogers City High School (RCHS). Anyone interested in helping out, whether a booster member or not, is encouraged to attend the meeting or call one of the officers. Another project considered for this summer is painting the Gilpin Field fieldhouse and possibly painting the softball dugouts. The dugouts will not be painted, however, until some repairs are made. Schuiteman will talk to the school board about those improvements. A date was not set for the projects.

Calabrese said because of the success of the first-time tailgate party last fall, another will be scheduled this fall. It was noted that businesses that had Huron support signs painted on their windows last fall may have them removed, free of charge. Business owners may contact any of the officers for the phone number of the man who did the painting. With Monday’s meeting being the final of the fiscal year, Jay Schuiteman thanked the officers, committee chairs, and all members and volunteers for a very successful year. There has been a renewed enthusiasm for keeping the organization in operation, and all the projects – including some new and innovative ones – were well received. The next regular monthly meeting is scheduled Monday, August 17, at 7 p.m. at RCHS.
