by Angie Asam, Staff Writer

St. Dominic Catholic Church in Metz will be celebrating their annual summer festival this Sunday afternoon on the church grounds. The festivities will begin at noon and wrap up around 5:30 p.m. According to Sister Rita Epple, so many items have been donated for the Chinese raffle that she can barely move around her house. Items include handmade items, gift certificates, merchandise and many other things. Community members or businesses in Rogers City, Posen, Onaway and Alpena have donated all of the items.

The highlight of the event for most people is the barbecued chicken dinners, which will be sold from noon until they are sold out. According to Epple, they hope to serve around 500 dinners with people traveling from all over the area to get one. Many volunteers will be on hand Friday peeling over 150 pounds of potatoes and cleaning many chickens. All of the other dishes, potato salad, macaroni salads, cole slaw, breads, desserts will be homemade.

The Happy Wanderers will be providing musical entertainment from 1-5 p.m. and a vintage auto show including cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors will be going on from noon until the end. Proceeds from the festival set off expenses for operation and maintenance of the church. For more information or directions please contact Epple at (989) 766-2694. Please join St. Dominic?s in celebrating their festival as the event has been a success for nearly 30 years.
