Millersburg School property transfer may take place sooner

The moving of equipment and supplies from the former Millersburg Elementary School to the Onaway Area Community Schools? complex is nearly complete with only a tour of the facility needing to take place before the steps to transfer the property to Case Township can begin.

At the July 14 board of education meeting, superintendent Bob Szymoniak said the transfer could begin sooner than expected.

Szymoniak had told Case Township officials he would have a quitclaim deed prepared and transfer of the property could be around September 1 to give the district enough time over the summer to have everything out.

Szymoniak and head of maintenance Don Comfort were to go through the building to ?make sure we have everything out of there that I think should be out and that (the building) is in good condition,? said Szymoniak.

Board president Mitch Winfield received a letter from Case Township officials indicating township supervisor Dean Storms and treasurer Dan Milbocker will handle the negotiations for the township and that they would be open to setting up a meeting to discuss the matter further.

Szymoniak would like to conduct the tour of the building before proceeding with the meeting.

On another related item, Szymoniak has a copy of the deed for the Case Township forest property on Big Cut Highway and told the board that the deed indicates ?the Case Township Union School owns that school forest as of 1951.?

Szymoniak said legal counsel would be consulted to answer the question of whether the school forest property has to be deeded to the township when the school property is given back.
