Nautical City Queen’s Pageant set for Friday at high school

The opening event for the Nautical City Festival is scheduled for this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Rogers City High School (RCHS), the queen?s pageant. Nine talented young ladies who will all be seniors at RCHS this fall will compete for the title of Miss Rogers City 2009 to reign over the festival next week and become an ambassador of Rogers City for the next 12 months.

Julie LaBar, Tayler Bannasch, Paige McLennan, Megan Hopp, Kelly Vogelheim, Hannah Gunn, Brogan Brege, Logan Schuiteman and Cara Lafferty have been working hard in practices since mid-June and will provide an entertaining evening to those in attendance.

The contestants will begin the pageant competition Friday with interviews with the judges around 3 p.m. When interviews are finished they will be served dinner at the Lighthouse Restaurant before returning to RCHS to prepare for the show.

Miss Rogers City 2008 Jordyn Lamb will introduce master of ceremonies Art Ross before the contestants will be showcased in a photo slide show presentation prepared by Richard Lamb. The contestants will then take the stage for their opening dance routine and coordination presentation to ?Starstruck?.

Contestants will then introduce themselves and their parents to the audience and judges before lining up for the dance number choreographed by Morgan Schuiteman one last time. Jordyn Lamb will then perform her 2008 winning talent presentation, an a cappela tap dance routine before the contestants begin the talent portion of the evening. LaBar will be singing ?I enjoy being a girl? from a 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, ?Flower Drum Song?. Bannasch will then take to the stage for a dance routine/skit to two versions of the song ?Shake It?.

McLennan will perform a ?History of Dance? routine and Hopp will dance to ?Wizards in Winter?. Vogelheim will then do sign language to the song ?Home? before Gunn takes the stage to dance to ?The Way You Make Me Feel?. Brege will be performing a flag routine to ?Eight Days a Week?. Logan Schuiteman will follow with a dance routine to ?Do Your Thing? before Lafferty wraps up the talent presentations with a monologue from the movie ?Clueless?.

A 15-minute intermission will give the contestants time to prepare for the evening gown presentation and the judges and audience a break from the action. The evening gown presentation and final question will wrap up the portion of the program the contestants are judged on and while the judges finish their scorecards and the auditors

add up the totals the crowd will be entertained as first runner-up 2008 Jessica Ruppert performs the song ?Home? followed by a dance presentation by Miss RC 2008 Jordyn Lamb and her sister Kelleigh to ?Imagine?.

Pageant director Pennie Kelly will then take over the microphone to perform a vocal presentation before Jordyn Lamb delivers her farewell speech and does her final walk. The presentation of awards will follow with contestants receiving awards for the highest ticket sales, miss congeniality, coordination, talent, evening gown, second runner-up, first runner-up and finally Miss Rogers City 2009.

The pageant staff will be on hand and working hard with Pennie Kelly directing assisted by Angie Asam and Laura Winkel. Marsha Schulwitz handled ticket sales. Brad Schulwitz will be running the sound for the evening while Alex Lemmon, Mike Marx, Andrea Shadbolt and Quintin Kelly will run lights. The dressing room crew of Riconda Lamb, Carrie Brownell, Jordyn Lamb and Ruppert will prepare the contestants while Asam and Pennie Kelly will be the stage crew. Auditor for the evening will be J.W. Kieliszewski.
