Three OHS grads star for TC Wolves

Quarterback Will Moran, running back D.J. Szymoniak and right tackle Damon Marsh, all graduates of Onaway High School, are starting players on the Traverse City Wolves semi-pro football team.

The Wolves play in the Great Lakes Region in the Northern Conference of the North American Football League (NAFL). They are in their inaugural season and will play ten games, five home and five away. After the regular season, 32 of the nearly 100 NAFL teams will compete in the playoffs.

In their season opener against the Ypsilanti Yellow Jackets July 18 Szymoniak rushed the ball five times for 59 yards to lead the team in rushing. Moran ran four times for 21 yards and was seven of 14 passing for 82 yards and three touchdowns. Marsh, of course, was a part of their success as he blocked on the line, opening holes and protecting Moran. The Wolves went on to win the g

ame 33-7.

Game two of the season pitted the Wolves against the Chicago Wolverines. Szymoniak carried the ball 11 times for 62 yards and three touchdowns. Moran ran seven times for 28 yards and was five for 15 passing with 52 yards.

The Wolves will host the Tri-City Thunder August 1 at 7 p.m. at the Traverse City Central High School field. They will then travel August 8 to play the Tri-City Thunder in Canada before returning for a home game on August 15 against the Genesee County Patriots. Remaining home games will be September 12 against the London Silverbacks and September 19 against Ypsilanti.

All games begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children 4-7 and children 3 and under get in free.
