Time to celebrate our beautiful parks

by Angie Asam, Staff Writer

This Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Trout River Park, located off of Forest Avenue in Rogers City, will be a day to celebrate ?Parks Day? in Rogers City. Presque Isle County 4-H will be running some children?s activities at the park. A volleyball and horseshoe tournament will take place and self-guided nature walks on the beach trails at Seagull Point highlight the fun.

Activities for children will include tree identification, leaf rubs and matching activities. 4-H coordinator Michael Martin will be o

n hand with information about 4-H in Presque Isle county and aims to have children be able to recognize the kinds of trees in the local parks.

?It?s a lower key event than we did last year. There was so much involved last year and we just didn?t have the resources to duplicate it this year. We still want people to come out and enjoy the parks and their beauty,? said city manager Mark Slown. Weather will play a big factor in the success of the event. T-shirts will be given out to those participating in the various events and Hungry-R-Ya, a hot dog vendor, will be on hand to keep everyone fed and happy.

?The event is also a great opportunity to bring people together,? said Slown. For more information on the volleyball tournament please contact Al Smolinski at (231) 420-5068. Horseshoe players may just show up and have the opportunity to play as three pits are featured at Trout River Park.
