Military walkway latest edition to Millersburg park

by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

Members of the military, including anyone who is currently serving or has served in any capacity, are being honored along a brick-lined sidewalk in Millersburg being called the ?military walkway.?

The bricks have the name of the service man or woman on them, the branch of service and the years of service.

According to Dan Millbocker, w

ho spearheaded the project, there?s a career serviceman who?s been in the military since 1994 already on the walkway. About 30 bricks were already in in time for the Millersburg Homecoming, with a dozen more ready to go in at Millbocker?s Millersburg business.

?THE WALKWAY is for all the people who have dedicated their lives to service,? said Millbocker. It has created a lot of interest among visitors and locals.

?You can?t believe how many walk up and down the walkway to read the names,? said Millbocker, who watches from across the road at Sheila?s Caf? when the local round table group meets.

The inspiration for the downtown park came about from a round table discussion about what the temperature was outside. That got the ball rolling toward getting a digital temperature sign in the park. The temperature sign is in place, but $55,000 later, there?s also a gazebo, a clock that plays music and chimes every 15 minutes, and a metal gateway dedicated to one of the most generous benefactors.
