The Rogers City volleyball team was at the Presque Isle County Championships Wednesday evening (after press time) and will be at the Straits Area Conference Championships Saturday before hosting the district tournament next week. Monday in Pellston for a tri-meet the Hurons fell to Pellston by scores of 5-25 and 21-25 and to Gaylord 22-25 and 14-25. Emily Marx had eight digs on the day and Rachel Lewandowski had three ace serves. Logan Schuiteman had six digs and four kills, Amanda Smolinski had an ace and three kills and Becca Peacock had three kills.

?We had a tri meet in Pellston and started out with Pellston and were not awake or moving duri

ng our first game with them. I was missing one player but that should have not made a difference. We played better the second game with them but the team just was not clicking. We struggled with all areas; passing, setting and hitting. Hopefully we have gotten this out of our system and play better on Wednesday,? said coach Kristy Smolinski.

THURSDAY IN THEIR last regular season home match of the season as they celebrated senior night and parents? night the Hurons defeated Alpena in four games. The Hurons fell in game one 25-21 before rallying to take game two 26-24, game three 28-26 and game four 25-21.

?The team came in with a great attitude, played together and got the job done. We have been working hard on our defense and it paid off. These were the type of games we need to have to prepare us for the next few weeks,? said coach Smolinski. The Hurons will begin district action Monday when they face Oscoda at 7 p.m. District action will continue Wednesday as Inland Lakes will take on Whittemore-Prescott at 6 p.m. and the winner of the Rogers City/Oscoda game will face Alcona at 8 p.m. The district finals are set for Friday, November 6 at 7 pm.
